The Fisher House Foundation™ (www.fisherhouse.org) is an organization enabling military family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury. Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program helps 12,000 families and has made more than three million days of lodging available to family members since it started in 1990.
During four “Kronos Gyros For Heroes” events, Kronos has given away over 133,000 free gyros to consumers, and Chicagoans have donated close to $15,000 to Fisher House Foundation. Kronos is particularly close to the the Chicagoland area Fisher House located on the campus of the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Ill. Since starting its “Kronos Gyros For Heroes” initiative, Kronos employees have donated more than 150 hours of their time, preparing and serving food to families staying at the home on a monthly basis.
