In last week’s blog I outlined some alternative uses for KronoBROIL® that we served at the NRA Show, where its BOLD flavor and unique versatility really set it apart as an ingredient with endless possibilities. Continuing with that theme, I wanted to highlight the flexibility of KronoBROIL® by focusing on one of America’s hottest dining trends – ethnic and regional sandwiches. These globally influenced sandwiches are among the top 10 fastest-growing sandwich varieties in the country; and two of the most important consumer demands driving this trend are “flavor adventure” and “authenticity”.

With a focus on flavor adventure, we’ve developed a hearty submarine-style sandwich which we like to call the “Mythical Meatcropolis Sub”. Start by spreading your favorite sub roll with a garlic-margarine spread, and then lightly toast it in the oven. Next, pile on the meats! Start with our KronoBROIL® Gyros Slices, and then add sliced meatballs and pepperoni. Top the meats with zesty marinara sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake the sandwich in the oven at 350°F until warmed through and the cheese has melted. To finish off this delicious flavor adventure, top the sandwich with grated parmesan and chopped fresh basil.

To answer the consumer calls for authenticity, we like to focus on ingredients that are synonymous with the Mediterranean. For the “Spartan Sub Sandwich” we start with a submarine roll that has been spread with basil pesto and then lightly toasted. Next, add layers of hot KronoBROIL® Gyros Slices and top with fresh baby spinach leaves and sundried tomatoes. Then add veggies with shredded mozzarella cheese and bake in a 350°F oven until the cheese is melted. Drive home the authenticity by adding pickled red onions and crumbled feta cheese!
